When the shoulder is dislocated,
the head of the humerus is popped out of the joint socket. Fractures and
other injuries may also occur. After recovery and rehabilitation from the
initial injury, the shoulder may pop out of place often because ligaments
and tendons that support the shoulder joint may have been stretched or
torn during the original injury. This tends to occur most often in younger
people.
Additional rehabilitation
may help the unstable shoulder, but surgery may be necessary to repair
the ligaments and other structures of the shoulder joint.
