If you have been injured on the job, it is important to determine not just how to help treat the problem but also how severe the injury is and what might be done to help improve safety upon returning to the same job.
The Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a method of measuring your ability to perform work tasks and the degree or percentage of tasks that can be performed after injury and after treatment. At the Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma, we use a computerized system, based on the Hanoun software, to obtain the most accurate results possible.
The FCE program consists of having the injured person perform tasks based on a job description provided by the employer. The results are calculated by the computer and establish a percent of job tasks that can be performed. These results provide the basis for planning appropriate therapy and for measuring progress as well as when and to what extent a person returns to work.
