    Why should I choose to have my orthopedic surgery at the Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma?

    The Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma is devoted exclusively to orthopedic care, including rehabilitation. The physicians on our medical staff are specialists in orthopedic surgery and related specialties. The hospital was designed by doctors with the specific needs of their orthopedic patients in mind. The Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma includes many technical innovations and advanced features. In addition, the staff of the hospital is dedicated to providing a completely new level of personal service to our patients. The entire hospital environment is one of quality, caring, and respect.

    What should I bring with me when I come to the hospital?

    If you are going to be spending the night at the Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma, you may want to bring some personal toiletries with you. Please remember to wear loose comfortable clothes and wear your glasses instead of your contact lenses. Jewelry and other valuables should be left at home or in the care of a family member while you are in surgery.

    How do I get to the hospital?

    The Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma is easily accessible from all of the city’s major thoroughfares. The Creek Turnpike runs just to the south of the hospital, and Riverside Parkway, a scenic roadway skirting the Arkansas River, provides quick access from the Turnpike to the hospital. Interstate 44 runs north of the hospital with access to the facility on Lewis Avenue.

    Where do I park when I come to the hospital?

    You will find ample free parking on the west side of the complex. If you are using our services, you may take advantage of our free valet parking service. You will need to go to the covered main lobby entrance on the west side directly under the 60-story tower. You will be greeted by one of our attendants, who will be easily recognizable by the hospital’s trademark apparel imprinted with the Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma logo and hospital badge.

    How will I know what to do once I get to the hospital?

    We encourage our guests to make the Reception Desk in the main lobby of the 60-story tower their first stop. Associates at the desk will escort you to your destination.

    What floor is surgery on?

    Surgery is located on the third floor. When you arrive at the hospital for surgery, you are encouraged to stop at the Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma Reception Desk in the tower lobby. One of our associates will escort you to the surgery and reception area. A designated elevator at the back of the 60-story tower lobby on the southeast side will take you directly to the third floor. The elevator doors open in a vestibule outside the Family Waiting Area.

    Where does my family wait while I am in surgery?

    The Family Waiting Area is located on the third floor. While waiting, family members or friends may use the many amenities offered. Another special feature of the Family Waiting Area is a designated activity area for children.

    How long does outpatient surgery generally take?

    The amount of time you spend in surgery will depend on the type of procedure you are having done. You may want to discuss this with your doctor prior to the day of your surgery.

    How long do I have to wait after outpatient surgery until I am discharged?

    If you are having outpatient surgery, you will remain in the recovery area until you and your healthcare team feel you are ready to return home. The time you spend in recovery will vary from guest to guest. A member of the staff will assist you to your vehicle when you are ready to leave. 

    Do I have to have therapy?

    Therapy is a necessary part of most orthopedic procedures. The goal of therapy is to evaluate orthopedic injuries and conditions and to develop a schedule of treatment, exercises and education under the direction of an interdisciplinary team of healthcare specialists. The length and duration will be determined by your physician with specific regards to your capabilities and needs.

    What do I do if I need a wheelchair, crutches, walker, etc.?

    The Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma case managers work closely with you and your family to ensure all your needs are met during your stay and when you return home. If you have questions about services and support available to you after you leave the hospital, you may contact a case manager at 477-5037.

    Will my insurance cover my entire bill?

    It is important to talk with someone in our business office prior to your surgery. They can answer all of your questions about insurance and help you determine how much of your estimated bill will be covered and what portion of the bill you will need to pay.     Do you bill Medicare for my care?

    The Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma is Medicare Certified and will accept Medicare’s allowable payment for services. We will file your Medicare claims and bill you for the co-insurance and any deductibles. We will also be glad to file Supplemental or MediGap insurance coverage claims for you.

    Can I bring my laptop computer with me?

    You are welcome to bring your laptop computer with you to the Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma. Each of our inpatient rooms has an internet connection for your convenience.

    Do you have spiritual care available at the hospital?

    Whatever your religious affiliation, we want you to feel completely at home while you are at the Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma. If you are affiliated with a local congregation and would like your minister or rabbi to visit you in the hospital, they are always welcome. If those arrangements are not already in place, please contact a Guest Services Representative who will be glad to assist in making arrangements for a visit. 

    Where is Occupational and Physical Therapy?

    The Therapy Center is located on the fourth floor. The elevators designated for the fourth floor are located in the lobby area of the 30-story tower. When you arrive at the hospital for outpatient rehabilitation, you are encouraged to stop at the Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma Reception Desk in the tower lobby. If you would like, one of our associates will escort you to the therapy area.

    Do I need to have someone stay with me if I am having outpatient surgery?

    If you are having outpatient surgery, you will need to have an adult who can drive you home when you are released form the hospital. We also advise that someone stay with you through the night, to make sure you do not experience complications.

    How do I reach a guest's hospital room?

    Our inpatient rooms are located on the ninth floor. The designated elevators for the ninth floor are in the lobby of the 30-story tower. We have a 25-bed inpatient facility. We encourage you to stop at the Reception Desk in the main lobby of the 60-story tower for assistance in finding your way around our facility. If you would like, one of our associates will escort you to your destination.

    Are there private rooms in the hospital?

    Yes, we have private rooms, 24 in the main hospital, and there is one semiprivate room.

    Are guests allowed to stay overnight in the hospital?

    If you need or want a family member to remain with you overnight on the day of your surgery, many rooms are equipped with special sleeping facilities for one guest. Parents are always welcome to stay with their children. We also have a list of hotels in the area that you may want to consider. Access a list of area hotels now.

    What are normal visiting hours?

    The Orthopedic Hospital of Oklahoma welcomes your family and friends as guests at any time. Children are also welcome to visit you in your room. How you feel should determine the number of visitors you have and the length of their stay.
