The following is information about diets your doctor might order.

Regular
A balanced diet that includes a variety of foods, such as fruits, vegetables, grain products, and protein foods.

AHA (Heart Healthy)
A diet low in dietary fat and sodium. Includes 5-6oz of lean meat, poultry, fish a day, non-fat or 1% milk instead of whole milk. Recommends five servings of fruit and vegetables per day.

Consistent Carbohydrate
A diet prescribed for diabetes or uncontrolled blood sugar. Based on caloric amount, patients will be allowed to order a specific number of carbohydrates at each meal. This diet provides patients flexibility in ordering within their meal plans.

Renal
A diet low in dietary sodium, potassium and phosphorus. Protein quantity will be specified for each individual. Avoids foods such as oranges, tomatoes, potatoes, colas, nuts, milk, and milk products. Often patients will be on fluid restrictions.

Clear Liquid
A short-term diet that consists of coffee, tea, fruit juices without pulp, strained cream soups, carbonated or non-carbonated beverages.

Full Liquid
A short-term diet that consists of milk and milk products, juices without pulp, strained cream soups, carbonated or non-carbonated beverages.
